Where you’ll be
The apartment is on Nikagas Magu in Hulhumalé Phase 2. The beach is just across a small road from the building, and the balcony looks straight out over the sand and the sea. Seaplanes from Velana Airport fly past through the day.
Hulhumalé is joined to the airport island by road, so there’s no ferry or speedboat to catch: a taxi from Velana International Airport takes 15–20 minutes.
Phase 2 is still growing. It has fewer shops than Phase 1, and you may hear construction on some days. Phase 1’s restaurants, malls and water sports are about a 10-minute taxi ride away.
Coffee and food
Family Room Coffee, our favourite café, is right down the street. Clay Studio Café, Thai Palace, La Vera Pizzeria and Market Café at One Central Park are all within about a 20-minute walk.
For children
Central Park has grass and shade to run around in, Jungle Gym is an indoor play area for hot afternoons, and The Clay Studio runs pottery sessions for children.
Groceries and pharmacy
We shop at Fahi Grand, Olive Tree 5 and Seagull Grocery at Aira, and there are small pharmacies within walking distance for everyday medicines.
Getting here from Velana Airport
Landing at Velana International Airport (MLE)? You’re almost here. Hulhumalé is linked to the airport by road, and the drive to the apartment usually takes 15–20 minutes, never more than about 30.
Airport taxi
The taxi rank outside arrivals at Terminal 1 runs around the clock. The regulated fare to Phase 2 is usually MVR 85 for a standard car. Drivers usually take USD 10, but they rarely have change, so bring cash.
Avas
A ride-hailing app, like Uber, that works across Greater Malé and Hulhumalé. Book a car to the apartment and track the driver in the app.
Malé Taxi Line
MTCC’s official taxi app for the Greater Malé area. Book or schedule in the app, or call 1655.
R9 bus
The budget option: about MVR 15, roughly every 30 minutes, around 25 minutes to Phase 2. Fine with light bags; with big luggage, take a taxi.
Coming from Malé city? Take a taxi over the Sinamalé Bridge, or the public ferry between Malé and Hulhumalé (check the times on the day).
Flying on to a domestic flight or a resort transfer the next day? The airport is close enough for an easy taxi back in the morning, which is often calmer than a tight connection.
